Description

Stovetop apple butter makes the perfect taste of fall! You’ll love this delicious apple spread and the small batch recipe is so EASY!

Ingredients

  • 2 pounds (900 g) apples, peeled and chopped
  • 1/2 cup (100 g) sugar
  • 1/4 cup (55 g) light brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup (125 g) pure apple juice
  • 1 Tbsp (15 g) lemon juice
  • 1/4 tsp cinnamon
  • 1/8 tsp cloves
  • 1/8 tsp salt

Instructions

  1. Combine apples, sugar, brown sugar, apple juice, lemon juice, spices, and salt in a heavy saucepan over medium high heat. Bring mixture to a boil, then reduce heat to low and simmer until the apples are softened and begin to break down, about 15 minutes. Remove from the heat and let cool for 5 minutes.
  2. Carefully transfer the mixture to a food processor and blend for 1 minute, or until smooth and pureed (with the texture of applesauce).
  3. Return the mixture to the sauce pan and continue simmering for another 30 minutes, or until the apple butter is a medium caramel and holds its shape on a spoon.
  4. Transfer apple butter to a glass bowl or measuring cup and let cool to room temperature before using.
  5. Store apple butter in an airtight container in the refrigerator up to 2 weeks.
