malted banana smoothie

in Drinks & Frozen Treats

I’m incredibly particular about bananas – I prefer them slightly underripe and the moment a brown spot appears, the bunch languishes on the counter until I freeze the fruit for baking use. As you can imagine, my freezer is regularly stocked with plenty of frozen bananas. Thanks to this malted banana smoothie, I have a new use for those “old” bananas. Almond milk, a sliced frozen banana, malted milk powder, and a splash of vanilla are all you need for this creamy drink. Try adding a scoop of protein powder or a spoonful of peanut butter for a balanced breakfast or snack.

Malted Banana Smoothie
1 cup almond milk
1 frozen banana, sliced
3 Tbsp malted milk powder
1 tsp vanilla extract

Blend almond milk and banana until combined. Add malted milk powder and vanilla; blend until smooth and creamy. Serve immediately.

We have the same taste in bananas – I definitely love them on the greener side, and we are always having smoothies – this sounds so yummy with the malted milk powder :)

Fun smoothie, Laura! I don’t mind bananas after they get a little brown and mushy…I know that I am in the minority there. But I also love to use the brown ones for baking. I’ll be trying this smoothie though!

Bananas always end up in smoothies at home. This would make a wonderful breakfast!

This is a delightful idea. In fact, I have a couple of over ripe bananas on my fruit platter at the moment! Thanks.

What a great idea! Sometimes I sometimes forget that malted milk powder is actually wonderful in smoothies and shakes (not just baked goods). I have the very same banana “issues.” :)

I’m the exact same way with bananas! I like them with a little bit of green and if they get a single spot, I’ll leave them in my fruit bowl until they turn black. You could imagine how many fruit flies start coming over!

Now I get to use up my bananas with this awesome smoothie! I really need to get my some malted milk powder ASAP!

I like my bananas a little over-ripe but with the temperatures going higher and higher lately I have stopped buying them since I hate fruit flies and it seems they love bananas as much as I do.
Now we only buy 2-3 bananas as a time to make sure they don’t last more than 1 day.
Your smoothie sounds like a great breakfast or as an after workout treat

Huh… I never thought of keeping bananas in freezer. Do you know how long we can store it in freezer? I don’t like mushy bananas and by the time a few gets mushy it goes straight to banana bread. I’d love to have an option to save it at a perfect ripeness for other use. Never heard of malted milk powder. If it’s easy to find I want to make this smoothies with bananas!

Adding malted milk powder and a spoonful of peanut butter sounds yummy!! Delicious alternative to my standard banana with coconut milk smoothie :)

I too prefer a slightly green tipped banana and detest a soft mushy brown one! Once ripe and languishing in the fruit basket I usually make banana bread or muffins. A smoothie with almond milk sounds intriguing and refreshing now that sunny spring days have arrived!

I freeze my bananas, too. I think they taste better in recipes that way. I keep seeing malted drinks and I need to hunt me down some. I can’t keep eating Whoppers to get my malt fix!

Hehe I think I’m the opposite way with bananas. I love them super ripe! :D But I also loved malt in milkshakes! :D

Looks like a great drink – bananas end up this way at my house too – I either buy too many or too few bananas for eating “raw”, so often have to bake or smoothie-ise them instead!

Never tried them with malted milk… will remember that!
